May L. Vernon, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Todd-Aikens Health Center in Franklin. She was a resident of Bargersville.
She was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Waldron. Her parents were Lester James and Stella (Deweese) Bewley. She married Elmer Edward Vernon on Dec. 3, 1934. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1987. Survivors include three sons, Joe Vernon of Indianapolis, Tom Vernon of Franklin and David Vernon of Clinton Township, Mich.; a sister, Anna Shireman of Westport; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth and Carolyn Vernon; two brothers, James and Alford Bewley; and a sister, Mary Gardner.
She was employed by First Christian Church in Bargersville as a custodian for 15 years.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Bargersville. She also was active in the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts of Johnson County, where she received the Silver Beaver Award.
The Rev. Roger Gifford will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 27 East St. in Bargersville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, is handling arrangements.
