"Motorcycle Rider Killed In Collision, by Ernest HALE, Ledger Staff Writer // A firey [sic] crash killed a Columbus man early this morning when his motorcycle struck a car head-on. // Dead is David Bruce CULPEPPER, 21, of 2440 Marion St. // According to Partolman H. D. TOVEY, CULPEPPER was traveling north on S. Lumpkin Road near Levy Drive about 12:15 a.m. when the motorcycle crossed the center dividing line and traveled into the south bound lane. // A car driven by a Fort Benning soldier, John W. STILEN, was struck head on. STILEN told police he saw headlights coming at him. He swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, but was unable to. // A passenger in STILEN's car, Donna FORTUNE, 19, of 741 Winston Rd., suffered cuts on her face. // CULPEPPER's motorcycle caught fire on impact and he was thrown off. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Striffler-Hamby's Macon Road Chapel. // Mr. CULPEPPER has been a Columbus resident since 1960 and was a 1972 graduate of Kendrick High School. He was a student at Columbus College at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. He was born May 17, 1954 at Fort Bragg, N.
