Opal M. DeNu

Opal M. DeNu, 83, of Evansville, formerly of Louisville, Ky., passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2005, in Evansville.

She was the former Opal Woodard and a member of the St. Monica Society. During World War II, Opal worked at the Evansville Shipyards manufacturing airplanes and LSTs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius A. DeNu, a brother, Clifford Woodard, and a sister, Loretta Elpers.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Charles DeNu; a daughter, Ann C. Elverson; sisters, Florence Theuerkauf and Dorothy Hayes; brother, Leo Woodard; four grandchildren, Tracy Walker and Brian, Jonathan and Matthew DeNu; and a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Walker.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m Monday at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1010 Schiller Ave., Louisville, Ky., with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery there. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Arch L. Heady & Son, 1201 E. Oak Street, Louisville, Ky. (502) 635-5231.
