Thomas M. Anderson, age 74, of Bulloch County is the son of the late O. C. Anderson and Ruby Wynn Anderson. He was a 1956 graduate of Portal High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Thomas spent most of his adult life in Marietta, Georgia, raising his family and operating his business as an active member of the Roswell Street Baptist Church. Mr. Anderson was the owner and operator of Thomas M. Anderson Trucking Company of Kennesaw, Georgia for many years until his retirement in 2000. He was the founder and former president of Georgia Dump Truck Association, a board member of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association and had served on the board of the North Georgia State Fair.


Upon retiring, Thomas and his wife, Julia Ann returned to Bulloch County where he was a member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class. Thomas was a member of the Statesboro Kiwanis Club, the Bulloch Historical Society and the Portal Heritage Society where he had served as President. He was a 2009 recipient of the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award.


Thomas was a devoted husband, father, grand- father and friend. He had enjoyed many years of traveling, reading and restoring classic tractors. He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Rountree of Twin City and his brothers, Clinton Anderson of Camden, SC and Clyde Anderson of Statesboro.


Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Julia Ann Hendrix Anderson; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Julie and Tom Darnall, Jenny and Eddie Collins and Kathy Anderson; a grandson, John Darnall and his brother, Ed Anderson.
