My memories as the Beaver Meadows Church historian at the time of his death, by Carol Brotzman

Clapper Hill again hit a sad note December 15, 1998 when Robert "Bob" Bolles passed away with pneumonia and a broken hip at the
Carpenter Care Center where he had been a patient for a few days. He was also afflicted with Alzheimers. His wife is the former Anna M. Labzentis. They were the parents of five children; Frances, Mary Ann, Jeannie, George and Kathy. The family operated the farm for Glenn Bennett, and later renting the same farm their entire married life. Bob and Ann were married while Bob was serving in the US Navy after World War II on August 13, 1949. Bob was adopted January 3, 1933 by Leo and Bertha Crawford Bolles. Bertha died shortly after the adoption, then his father Leo married her sister Sarah Ella Crawford a former school teacher. She in actuality became his mother. Leo Bolles was a Justice of the Peace, and an avid recorder of early history of the area. Bob was born in LeRaysville, Pike Township, March 17, 1926. Leo recorded Bob accepted God in his life April 8, 1936. His family attended the West Auburn Methodist Church. When married, he converted to Catholicism. Bob and Ann loaned me many of his diaries for use in my research. Bob was there to assist Douglas Clapper when the new steeple was placed in the church in 1986. The community will miss his great wit, and wisdom he shared. I know I will remember him for what he told little children in the area about lightning and thunder. He said to them, "don't be afraid, it's just God bowling with the angels."

Leo recorded in his 1954 diary
Bob came to live here Friday July 25, 1930
Adoption papers from the court Jan 3, 1933, Judge A Swoyer of Honesdale presiding
Robert was adopted January 3, 1933 through Susquehanna County Court of Adoptions. The adoption papers signed by Leon W Potter. The cost was $5.00. His biological mother was Musette Edsell, his father was Mr. Davenport.

Memories form Anna Bolles.
I have gleaned from Leo Bolles diaries:
Leo and Bertha Crawford Bolles adopted Robert Edsell. It seems odd to me that they went to Towanda to adopt when they had an orphanage just a few miles from them in Susquehanna County. This Musette Edsell, the mother visited them before and after they adopted Robert. Leo was married to Bertha Crawford when the adoption took place, she died very shortly there after and he married her sister Ella Crawford.
Bertha wanted to rescue this child, Leo never really wanted children. When she died and he felt he was stuck with a child. Ella never wanted Bob either so not much was said, but Leo wrote everything in huge diaries. I have much typed off from them. He even recorded Musettes birthdate and sent cards. Bob never knew his mother until he went to date one of her daughters. OOPS , they had to tell him.
