Clarence Pratt married the only daughter of Justus Bangs.
At one time the family moved to Iowa. One of Fannie's children became ill & she insisted the family move back to Wauconda.
Clarence ran the family hotel in Wauconda for a while as did 2 of his brothers.
He also had a store in Wauconda for a number of years.
He was involved with the Wauconda Gold Mine, in the Black Hills of South Dakota only a short distance from the Anaconda company. The company was organized in 1902 and the main office was in Waukegan, Illinois. There were 2,000,000 shares issued with a $1 par value.
The officers were J.B. Brocher, president, E.W. Brooks, treasurer J.E. Pratt, secretary and Frank Ames of Lead was superintendent.
I had once thought J.E. was a son of George W. Pratt but am now fairly certain it wasn't.
Many people of the town invested in this mine which was about to start deepening one of it's 2 shafts when all work stopped in 1904.
It had been told to me by a relative someone took all the money that had been invested in this mining venture but I've no idea who that person was.
I've been looking at newspapers from that period of time and see Clarence was general manager at one time. I also found an article that one of the Golding family members was involved with this mine.
There are several articles about the mine but I can't find out what exactly happened.
