U.S. Congressman. He attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire; he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1884 and commenced his practice in Troy, Ohio. He was elected prosecuting attorney of Miami County, Ohio, in 1890, also served as president of the board of education of Troy and was Mayor of Troy. In 1901, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-seventh and Fifty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1905. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his sudden death at age 59.
