Mildred Ashcroft Smith died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Pinnacle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Price, Utah.

She was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Hyde Park, Utah, to George Franklin and Phoebe Thurston Ashcroft.
She attended elementary school in Hyde Park, Utah, and graduated from North Cache High School and Seminary in 1937 and Utah Agriculture College (later became Utah State University) in Logan, Utah, in 1944.

In her teen years she was very active as a member and leader of the 4-H program. She won a number of county, state and national awards for her sewing skills. She always enjoyed hand-work. After her retirement she spent many leisure hours doing embroidery and counted cross stitch. Her children have many pieces of her work.

After graduation from college she taught school in the Alpine School District for two years, teaching at Lehi Elementary School. She also taught for 28 years in the Logan City School District at Ellis Elementary School.
In 1945 she married Verne C. Smith and lived in Williamsport, Pa. After a short time they decided to return to Cache Valley, Utah, to make their home in Logan.

Her husband Verne passed away in 1985. In 1993, Mildred bought a home in Huntington, Utah, and moved to be closer to her son, George Robert (Bob) and his family. She lived there until the time of her death.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Vella and LeMoille Harris; and brother and sister-in-law, Merlyn and Eleanore Ashcroft.

She is survived by a brother, Wendell (Mary) Ashcroft of Hyde Park, Utah; a daughter, Sandra Lee (Brad) Neeley of Gainesville, Va.; a son, George Robert "Bob" (Deborah) Smith of Lawrence, Utah; four grandchildren, Kimberly Neeley (Steven Cooper), Christopher Neeley (India McQuoid), Geoffrey (Hollie) Smith and James Smith; and three great-grandchildren, William, Nathanial and Aurora Smith.

A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Hyde Park Stake Center in Hyde Park, Utah. A graveside service and interment will be held at noon in the Hyde Park City Cemetery.
