Lulu was the daughter of Joseph Chesterfield Kerley and Ida Demeris Ford. She was born in Plano, Texas but by the age of 14 she was living in Hardeman County where she remained the rest of her life. She married James Vantine on February 4, 1906 in Quanah, Texas and together they had 5 children Wilbur, Blanche, James Jr., Juanita and Virginia.
In 1920 Lulu is listed as a school teacher.
Lulu died on May 11, 1925 on a Fort Worth and Denver City Passenger train between the cities of Fort Worth and Decatur, Texas enroute to Quanah her home from Ft. Worth where she had been for treatment.
