As a young adult, Virginia worked in the downtown Los Angeles May Company in the mezzanine book store and library. She loved books and was a avid reader her entire life.
When she met her future husband, Peter Egan, he was a widower raising Mary Ellen, his only child and caring for his aging parents.
They were engaged for about ten years before being married in 1941. They remained together until his death in 1975. Virginia never had children but she was a wonderful grandmother to Mary Ellen's children.
Virginia was a very intelligent lady with a wonderful dry wit and friendly disposition.
