A.A. Long killed in Auto Accident Near Fort Worth
Albert A. Long, 42, 411 South Windomere street, Oak Cliff, Dallas lawyer and former assistant city attorney, was killed in an automobile accident near Benbrook, southwest of Fort Worth, late Saturday afternoon.
A McKamy-Campbell funeral home ambulance went to Fort Worth to return the body to Dallas. It was accompanied by W.C. (Billy) Graves, former police commissioner of Dallas and law partner of Long.
First details of the accident reaching Dallas were meager, but it was reported here that Long was killed instantly when his car collided with a truck, the driver of which was not identified. He was reported unhurt however. The accident occured on the Benbrook-Cresson road, fifteen miles southwest of Fort Worth.
Long's body was badly burned by surphuric acid which was carried in the truck. Long was thrown clear of his car which was demolished by the impact. He suffered a fractured skull, internal injuries and a broken left leg. The body was taken to Fort Worth by the Luack Undertaking comany.
Long served as a member of the city's legal staff for over six years. During that time he handled some of the city's most important cases. In the latter part of the Tate administration he was appointed nominal head of the department during the illness of the late James J. Collins, city attorney.
Long resigned from the city legal staff after Hugh Grady was appointed city attorney. He was a graduate of the University of Texas law school.
Long was an active worker in the Texas League of Municipalities for many years. Surviving Long are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Lee Long and five children; including three daughters, Margaret, Anna Mae and Mattie Lee (error) and two sons, Albert Jr. and Hudson.
