Charles Augustus Larson passed away on February 21, 2012. Charles, better known as "Chuck"and "Charlie" was born June 13, 1932, in Fresno, CA, to Carl and Winifred "Winnie" Larson. He spent his younger years on a farm in Easton, CA. He was a drummer and drum major.
Chuck joined the military in 1951 and was proud to serve in the United States Air Force for over 24 years. After his retirement, he followed his love of the game of golf, becoming a member of the Professional Golfers Assn. He was a member of the Aloha Section PGA on Oahu where he was noted for his teaching skills and his knowledge of the "Rules of the Game." He was director of golf on both private and military courses on the island of Oahu. He was called upon often to officiate tournaments within the Hawaiian Islands. Chuck held various offices and became a District Director and sat on the national board over the years 1997-2000. During his tenure, he was privileged to serve as an on-course official the final day of the thirty-third Ryder Cup Matches in Brookline, MA. Over his 30-some years, he had the the opportunity to personally meet and work with many of the Pros, both as first time on the PGA Tour, and their becoming eligible for the Champions Tour Division. Chuck was an active member of the Lincolns Hills Community Church in both the choir and men's ministry.
Chuck leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Thelma; his son, Larry (Shirley), Volcano National Park, HI; daughter, Cherri, Austin, TX; stepdaughters, Corinne Smith (Danny), and Dawn Simpson, both of Vacaville, CA; step-grandchildren, Roy and Krystle Dearing, Cherie Davison, Duayne Palacar (Helen) and Kimberly Koga-Blair (Jeff). Step-great-grandchildren Christi and Duayne Palacat. Sisters-in-law Roselene Larson, Matie Ellingwood and Betty Reeves (Ray), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Betty Shank, brother, James Larson, stepson, Kenneth Simpson and former wife, Emma Lou Larson.
Viewing will be held at Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd., Roseville, CA, on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 4:30 to 7 PM. Services will be held on Wednesday at the Lincoln Hills Community Church, 95- E. Joiner, Lincoln, CA, at 10 AM, followed by burial services with full military honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia/Alzheimers Assn. or charity of choice.
