Obituary: 1963

"Mrs. Anna Ulander Backstrom , 76, of 4813 Oakridge Dr., Whitehall, died today in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mrs. Backstrom, a former resident of West Newton, was born October 26, 1886, in Sweden. She was a daughter of the late Emanuel and Sophia Peterson Ulander. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of North Side, Pittsburgh.

Survivors are her husband, George N. Backstrom: a daughter Mrs. Dorothy B. Tidwell of Whitehall: a grandson; sisters, Mrs. Olivia Backstrom of McKeesport, Mrs. Gertrude Budd of West Newton and Mrs. Olive West of Clairton; and brothers, Gus Ulander of West Newton and Oscar Ulander of Jamestown, NY.

Friends will be received tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. at the J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home, West Newton. Services will be conducted there at 2 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Dr. K.C. Fraser. Burial will take place in West Newton Cemetery."
