Born, in Huntington, the daughter of Lela Maude (Foster) and Calvin Welch, Wilma passed away Wednesday in a Lufkin hospital.

Prior to moving back to Lufkin and Angelina County in 1978, she had resided in Texas City for 31 years.

She was the retired accounting manager for Zales in Texas City, following 10 years of service. She was also a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for others and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxillary, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Huntington Chapter #938 and a member of Keltys United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Samuel Layton Baird Jr, whom she married 15 December 1949; sons and daughters-in-law Ronnie and Becky Baird, Jim Baird, and Dr. Tim and Judy Baird; sister and brother-in-law Aline and Gordon Perry; grandchildren, Kyle, Katie and Nikki; nieces and nephews Bonnell Wilson, Rusty Welch, Robin Welch, Sonny Perry, Gwen Schakett, Randy Welch, Becky Haverland, and Debbie Haverland; and numerous other relatives.
