Served in the United Maritime Service between the years 1941-1943. He survived the sinking of the M.V. Australia off the coast of North Carolina in 1942. He worked up to the rank of 2nd mate until he retired from the sea in 1952. He married Amy Margarette Fallis Adair who survived him.
