Dora Jane Hammond had five children that survived into adulthood. She also had many births of children that did not. She became very ill when my father, her only son, was 14. My Father, Johnnie Monroe, had to borrow a wagon and horse to place my Grandmother in to take her to the hospital in Jackson. She was attended at the Community Hospital, she did not live much longer after being taken to the hospital. My Father had a vivid recollection of the tragic event, even being only 14, he had no assistance from any family member, even his father.
