MADISON/VERONA - Richard James Laughlin, age 68, died on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2001, at University Hospital, Madison, of a cardiac arrest. He was born on Feb. 13, 1933, son of Gerald and Dorothy (Reuter) Laughlin, growing up on the family farm between Verona and Madison on Midtown Road.

After Dick graduated from Verona High School in 1951, he joined the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Lewis, WA he met his future wife. Dick was united in marriage to Lucille Ausbun on March 18, 1955 in Puyallup, WA. Dick and Lucille moved to the Madison/Verona area, where they raided their family. He was employed for 48 years before retiring in April 2000 from Carnes Company Inc., Verona, as a product specialist. With his work, Dick traveled extensively throughout the years. He was an avid sports enthusiast, had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. After retirement, Dick and Lucille enjoyed traveling to visit with their family.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lucille; daughters, Elaine (Mark) Bradley of Racine, Carol (Mike) Jarboe of Laongmont, CO and Judy (Bill) Schroeder of Stewartville, MN; son, Karl of Madison; six grandchildren, Kirsten, Jon, Sean, Jamie, Elyse and Bryan; his aunt, Margaret Heffernan of Manitowoc; and many other relatives and friends.

Dick was proceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Jason Richard Prevost.

Burial will be in the Verona Cemetery.
