During the Civil War he was a member of E company 4th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry.
Sept. 18-25 1862 he was wounded by an Ax. Sept 19,1863 he was Hospitalized in Nashville, Tenn. Sept 24-27, 1863 he was shot in the right wrist. The shot took off his thumb. Dec. 31, 1863 he was wounded at Chickawanga. He was taken POW July 30, 1864 at the battle of Newnan, Ga. and sent to Andersonville Prison Camp, along with his brother Jackson Wireman. Feb 26, 1865 he was Paroled at NE Ferry, North Carolina. He was moved to Collage Green Barreck, Maryland. Then to Camp Chase I and returned to duty Apr. 22, 1865. He was mustered out Aug 17 1865 at Macon, Georgia.
His bother Jackson, spelled his last name as Wireman instead of Wierman, which is common in this family. His brother Jackson also died while in Andersonville.
