W. HAYES ABERNATHY, 90, of Horn Lake, Miss., retired private investigator, died Saturday at his home after a short illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park. He was a Shriner and a Mason. He was a member of Tennessee and Mississippi Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association and Tennessee Law Enforcement Association. Mr. Abernathy, the widower of Virginia B. Abernathy, leaves six daughters, Dorothy A. Bartlett and Katherine A. Johnson, both of Pascagoula, Miss., Marjorie A. Przestrzelski of Pine Grove, Pa., Frances A. Dillard and Sarah E. Goeble, both of Memphis, and Grace McKee of Apollo Beach, Fla.; six sons, Charles W. Abernathy, Raymond G. Abernathy and Donald H. Abernathy, all of Memphis, W. Hayes Abernathy Jr. of Gulfport, Miss., James H. Abernathy of Springfield, Md., and C. Cecil Abernathy of La Mirada, Calif., 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
