Steward C. Presley, 77, of Box 64, Skygusty, died Thursday, May 4, 1989 in a Bluefield hospital. Born February 22, 1912 at Skygusty, he was a son of the late John and Margaret Freeman Presley. A lifelong resident of Skygusty, he was a retired coal miner and member of UMWA Local Union No. 9534 and Tug River Burial Association. He was a member of Church of Christ at Horsepen. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha O'dell Presley and his second wife, Dorothy Barnett Presley, brothers, Wilson, Louie, Alex, Luke, John and Joe Presley and a sister Elsie Dutton.
Survivors: wife, Violet Blankenship Presley; sons, Steward Presley Jr. and Michael Presley, both of Skygusty; daughters, Margaret Vincent of Bramwell, Mrs. Jimmy (Patricia) Moore of Bluefield, Mrs. Frank (Yvonne) Catron of Skygusty, and Mrs. Burton (Yvette) Perry of Prestonsburg, Ky.; brother, Elmer Presley of Gettysburg, Pa.; sisters, Gladys McCroskey of Jenkinjones, Bessie Day of Norfolk, Va., and Cecil Effler of Vansant, Va.; stepsons, Elmer Blankenship of Chahils, Wa., Holly Blankenship of Forks, Wa., Ernest Mounts of Eckman, and William Mounts of Skygusty; stepdaughters, Grace Justice of Big Rock, Va., Betty Hagerman of Hurley, Va., Velda Dingus of Castlewood, Va., and Sharon Parks of Skygusty; 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Sublett officiating and entombment at Woodlawn Mausoleum in Bluewell.
Friends may call today from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
