Mick received his education at Elkhorn (NE.) Valley Public Schools, graduating in 1969.
Mick entered the United States Air Force shortly after high school and served his country until his retirement as Chief Master Sergeant E9 in 1993. During that time he earned a variety of degrees, including an MBA.
After his retirement from the military, he moved to Neligh, NE., where he owned and operated Shirley's Cafe and the Family Snack Shack. He later moved to Omaha, NE. where he was CEO of the Nebraska Dairy Council. In 2010, he moved to Cincinnati, OH., where he worked for the Veterans Health Administration as a management analyst.
In November 2011, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and moved to Kearney, NE. for medical treatment. He was a member of Kearney (NE.) First United Methodist Church.
Mick is survived by: daughters, Melanie (Chris) Pipkins of Bellevue, NE. and Meredith (Lucas) Bennett of Meadow Grove, NE.; grandchildren, Austen, Leigha, Hunter, Reed, Marissa, Colton and Trigg; brother, Dave (T.J.) Roder of Twinsburg, OH.; sisters, Donna (Duane) Pierce of Madison, S.D., Chris (Rev. Gary) Main of Kearney, NE. and Sandy (Curt) Calder of Randolph, NE. and a host of relatives and friends.
Mick was preceded in death by: parents and son, Garrett Michael Jude Roder.

Michael L. "Mick" Roder, 60, of Kearney died of cancer Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mick was born Aug. 8, 1951, in Tilden to Donald G. and Shirley E. (Shupe) Roder.
Survivors are: daughters, Melanie Pipkins of Bellevue, NE. and Meredith Bennett of Meadow Grove, NE.; brother, Dave Roder of Twinsburg, OH.; sisters, Donna Pierce of Madison, S.D., Chris Main of Kearney, NE. and Sandy Calder of Randolph, NE. and seven grandchildren.
Burial was in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
