In a book entitled "The Heritage of Alay County" an article submitted by Mary Virginia Pogue Thomas. 30594 Hwy 9, Saline, Louisiana, states that Oscar's family moved to Louisiana in 1923 on the train to Ashland, Louisiana where Charlie his brother met them in his wagon. They lived near Charlie in a small, shotgun rent house and Oscar helped him farm on halves. In 1925 Oscar bought a home three miles north of Saline and Oscar opened up a blaksmith shop where he began to shoe horses and fix plows for a living as well as farming.

In the above book it stated after Oscar remarried he moved from his home to her home in Saline, Louisiana. Onnie continued living in the house until his death.
