Pauline Vera (Passig) Birkholz, formerly of Eureka, died on Friday, June 1, 2007, at Osage Nursing Home in Osage City, at the age of 89.
She was born on February 16, 1918, in Erie, the daughter of Emil and Ila J. (Sisson) Passig. She was raised in Argonia, and graduated from Argonia High School. On September 11, 1937, she was united in marriage to Everett Birkholz. In 1939, they made their home on 160 acres about 10 miles NE of Eureka where they started the family farm. Pauline and Everett raised a few cattle, occasionally a few pigs and always a lot of chickens. They had a huge garden and, every year, Pauline would can 300 or more jars of veggies, fruits, jams and jellies. On holidays, and special occasions, Pauline worked at the jewelry store in town. Everett preceded her in death on August 26, 2004.
She was a member of HDU, and the Jefferson Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, ... of Vassar; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Noland; one grandson, Larry Ray Birkholz, Jr., and wife Kelly, of Eureka; and two great-grandchildren, both of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Larry Ray Birkholz, Sr.; one brother, Dale Passig; and one sister, Pearline Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 4, 2007 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in her name to the Alzheimer's Association and the Jefferson Street Baptist Church.
