Mr. Hughes was born April 6, 1926 in Smackover, Arkansas to the late John Henry and Rebecca (Jackson) Hughes, and died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Hughes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the United States Postal Service and owned Hughes Barber and Beauty Supply in Lufkin for 25 years.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Susan Hughes of Lavon; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Gary Teer of New Braunfels and Pam and Billy Fitzgerald of Lufkin; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Archie Hughes of Hillsboro and Wayne and Dama Hughes of Port Neches; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Hughes; and son, Larry Wayne Hughes.
