MT. HOLLY - Mr. Floyd H. Abernathy, Jr. 79 of 216 W. Glendale Avenue died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at his home.

He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Floyd Abernathy, Sr., and Erva Jane Lineberger Abernathy. He was the husband of the late Clara (Smitty) Abernathy. Mr. Abernathy was a retired electrical contractor, having owned and operated Abernathy Electric in Mt. Holly for many years. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. In earlier years he had served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader. He served on numerous town boards and committees and was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Mt. Holly.

Mr. Abernathy is survived by 2 sons, James Abernathy and his wife Martha of Holly Springs, NC, and William (Bill) Abernathy and his wife Tressa of Mt. Holly; 4 grandchildren, Jessica, Scott, Mark and Stephen; and 1 sister, Jean Brackett of Rocky Mount, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at The First Baptist Church with Dr. Dennis Knight, Dr. Robert Winecoff and Rev. John Check officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery in Mt. Holly. The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home in Mt. Holly.

Memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church, 300 South Main Street, Mt. Holly, NC 28120; or to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Carothers Funeral Home of Mt. Holly is serving the family of Mr. Abernathy.
