Sister Cecilia is the daughter of Elizabeth Haverkamp and Joseph Berning Sr. She was born at Ashton, [Iowa] September 18, 1917. She attended St. Joseph's School and graduate in 1935.
Sister Cecilia entered the Convent at St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1937. She made her Perpetual Vows August 9, 1946 and received her B.A. from Viterba College, La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1952.
Sister Cecilia taught in Spokane, Washington, Wisconsin and in Iowa. As present she is teaching special reading classes in Holy Spirit School under Title 1 of Carroll Community School, Carroll, Iowa.
