   Newton William Chism Sr., 74, of Lavonia formerly of Nashville, Ga., died Wednesday, March 29, 2000.

   A native of Thomasville, Mr. Chism was a son of the late Newton Warren and Nancy Lou Ward Chism. He was a 1951 graduate of the Southern School of Pharmacy. He practiced community pharmacy for 30 years in Atlanta and was a partner in the Clairmont Skyland Pharmacy. He was chief drug inspector for a decade. He was a past president of Georgia Pharmaceutical Association and the Fifth Region. He served on the Georgia Board of Pharmacy for five years and was president of the board. He was on the board of directors of the Georgia Pharmacy Foundation. He was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Burial will be in Lavonia City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters,three sons, two sisters, and 12 grandchildren.
