Alex was the son of Rev. Joseph Rawson and Martha Robinson Rawson. When he was 18 years old, he left his home in Canada and came to California. He worked as a lineman for Western Union. In 1895 Alex received his naturalization papers. When he went to visit his parents in Canada, he met Annie Lottie Lawrence. They were wed on September 20, 1899 in Kingsville, Ontario. Alex and Lottie made their home in California. They had five children - Charles, Theodore, Clarence, Ruth and Rachel.
