SYLVIA H. MOODY, .a past president of the Women's Committee of the Glendale
Symphony Orchestra Association and staunch supporter of the Chevy Chase Canyon Home Owners Association, died last week at age 96.
Flamboyant and beautiful, Sylvia had a reputation of fighting for what she believed in, including the preservation of the Chevy Chase Canyon , where she and her husband built their first home I the 1930's.
In those early years, the powers behind the Chevy Chase Golf Club wanted to subdivide the area. It was Sylvia and her husband, Russell, who spearheaded a drive to protect the beautiful canyon area.
From 1947 until she moved from the area, she was secretary/treasurer of the Chevy Chase Estates Association .
Born in Wisconsin, she came to California in 1927 and found employment with the Southern California Edison Co. , where she met her future husband, an executive in the company's tax department.
The Moody's lived most of their married life (50 years) in the home they built in the canyon as newlyweds. She joined the Women's Committee in 1956, and after filling many positions in the organization, became president in 1972, the year the Glendale Symphony celebrated its Golden Anniversary.

The Women's Committee had more than 300 active members., who worked hard to support activities that brought money into the orchestra's general fund.
Honors were heaped on Sylvia for her volunteer work. Often, in her response to the honors, she would quote from the "Sound of Music" : " Somewhere in my youth or childhood I must have done something good."
Sylvia's goodness will long be remembered, and many of the good things she spearheaded in the city of Glendale will continue as a tribute to her talents and devotion. Graveside services were Monday at Forest Lawn.
Donation of her behalf may be sent to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital
or to the Glendale Symphony Association
