Last Sunday afternoon Moses McConnell started from the Stickney school house in the north-east corner of Watervliet Township, to go to Rush Lake to witness the baptism of some new converts. There were four in the buggy—himself and wife elder Paton, and Mrs. Jas. Watkins. When going down a steep hill one of the horses kicked and frightened the other causing it to jump and break the tongue. He attempted to hold them, but as they could not guide the buggy, after zigzagging and threshing about it run out of the road, upset and spilled the whole load on to the fence. McConnell and Paton were thrown across the fence, injuring them some. Mrs. Watkins was severely injured by being thrown against the rails, while Mrs. McConnell received but a slight injury. Later, since going to press, we learn that Mrs. Watkins died Thursday evening, and will be buried today (Saturday) at Bangor.— Day Spring The Bangor Reflector May 11, 1878
