The steamship, the Rebecca Clyde, of the Charleston & Baltimore line while on her way from this port to Baltimore was wrecked near Ocracoke Inlet, NC early on Sunday morning during the great southeast hurricane of the day. The steamer & cargo are a total loss. Her Commander, 2 mates, 2 engineers, 3 seamen, the steward, 2 coal heavers, and one passenger Mr. Deleon Whilden-20 souls in all went down with the ill fated steamer. Mr Whilden was about 28. He was formerly a resident of Charleston but more recently of Baltimore where he was shortly to be married.
