Charles was a set builder for movies in Hollywood, as was his son Ted. Charles once showed me (J. Keith Cook) the gold medal he got from Cecil B. DeMille for building the sets on one of Cecil B. DeMille's movies. He was in charge of set construction on DeMille's most famous movie, The Ten Commandments. Charles lived at 3401 Merced St in LA at time of his death.

Charles had a hard time finding work until 1914 when he got a job working for Lasky Film Studios, later called Paramount Studios. He worked there until 1958 when he died of a stroke.
