Actor. Born George Alan Cleveland in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Had a long career playing character roles on stage, vaudeville, radio, movies and television. Had supporting roles in over 150 films but was best known from 1954 to 1957 as George "Gramps" Miller on the 1950's television series "Lassie"-which also ran later after Cleveland's death as "Jeff's Collie," with an all new supporting cast. Cleveland's human co-stars on "Lassie," later called "Jeff's Collie" in syndication-were Jan Clayton (1917-1983) as Ellen Miller and Tommy Rettig (1941-1996) as Jeff Miller.
