He was mustered in on Sept. 12, 1862 in Indianapolis, IN by Capt. Miller.

Enlisted as Moses K. Grieselle, at Lowell by Lt. Sawyers, August 10, 1862, Co. I, 87th Regiment, Indiana Infantry, for 3 years, organized and mustered in at South Bend, IN, Aug. 31, 1862. Sent to Louisville, Kentucky, assigned to General Burbridge's brigade, October 1862; became part of General Buell's Army. Pursuit of Bragg to Crab Orchard, October 1 to 15, 1862, and in the first battle of Perryville, October 8, 1862. March to Nashville, Tenn. Oct. 16 to Nov. 9, 1862. Duty at South Tunnel, Pilot Knob and Gallatin, Tenn, Nov. 8 to 26 and guarding the fords of the Cumberland until Jan 29, 1863. Died, Dec. 16, 1862 at Gallatin, Tenn of disease dysentery and intestinal disorder caused by improper army food. His burial place is unknown to me at this time.
