Christine E. Opdycke, 80, Hutchinson, Kans., died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996 at Hester Care Center at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. She was born April 14, 1916 at Wilson, the daughter of Alexander and Matilda Koetkemeyer Anschutz, and married Gerald C. [W.] Opdycke at Russell. He died in 1952. She received her master's degree from Emporia State Teacher's College. A Hutchinson resident since 1954, moving from Russell, she was a retired teacher, having taught at Grandview and Graber elementary schools, Hutchinson.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Retired Teachers Association, the Community Concert Association and the Polyphonic Music Club, all of Hutchinson, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas D., DeSoto, Gerald C., LaGrange, Ga., and Kenneth K., Mercer Island, Wash.; a daughter, Virginia A. Bilger [Belger], Overland Park; a brother, Elmer Anschutz, Wilson; a sister Elfrieda Spaugh, Hays; and six grandchildren.
The funeral was Friday, Nov. 15, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, the Rev. Warner officiating. The graveside service was Friday in the Russell City Cemetery, the Rev. Glenn Tombaugh officiating. The Elliot Mortuary, Hutchinson, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church or to Wesley Towers.
