excerpts from Last Mountain Echoes- page 221: ...following his marriage in May 1939.. our first home was Herman's grandfather's (Arthur Swanick) homestead NE 26-26-23 W2. we lived their until 1943. In December 1943, we moved to the former Fred Swanick's farm in the Arlington Beach District which we purchased in 1946. Herman served on the Govan United Church Council, the Govan co-op Board, and the Cymric Wheat Pool....In the fall of 1968 Herman was diagnosed with cancer, after surgery he was determined to continue farming and remained on the farm until 1971 He then purchased one of the oldest houses in Govan, from Tom Banting, it was built in 1910 by H.F. Miller.
