SCARBOROUGH - Barbara Grant Adams, 59, of Scarborough passed away July 20, 2005.
Barbara Grant Adams was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on Oct. 23, 1945. She was the daughter of Harry and Katherine Grant of Bridgewater, Mass. Barbara enjoyed playing sports throughout her high school career and graduated from Bridgewater Raynham Regional High School in 1963. She attended the University of Maine in Orono and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1967.
Throughout her public school career she taught at elementary schools in Derry, N.H., Alexandria, Va., and Brewer.
Barbara married William W. Adams on July 20, 1968. They were married for 37 years. They raised three sons, Douglas, Robert and Brian. Barbara moved with her husband as his jobs demanded. As a family they finally settled in Scarborough in 1981. Barbara was involved in her church, scouts and sports activities.
Her love of teaching and working with young children and their families led her to the Discovery Center Nursery School in the fall of 1981. For the next 22 years she taught at, directed, and owned the school. She eventually sold it to the First Congregational Church in South Portland.
Barbara enjoyed making crafts and gifts for her family, friends and students. She also enjoyed writing poems and songs and photography. Her Christmas poems and photographs were always looked forward to by those she loved.
