FATAL RUNAWAY ACCIDENT Luther McMinn's Neck Is Broken by being Thrown From Buggy. On Friday morning last, Luther McMinn, of near Carmichaels, was fatally injured in a runaway accident, in which his neck was broken. Mr. McMinn, in company with John Armstrong, was returning from Masontown, driving two horses. When descending a steep hill, about one mile south of Carmichaels, the pole of the buggy broke, causing the horses to run away. Mr. McMinn was pulled from the carriage and fell directly in front of the wheels which passed over his neck. Assistance arrived and the injured man was removed to his home and a physician summoned, who after a careful examination stated that his neck was dislocated and little could be done for him. Notwithstanding his condition, Mr. McMinn lived until Sunday when death terminated his sufferings. He was 65 years of age and a veteran of the Civil War. His children survive as follows: Charles, Walter, George, John and Edward McMinn and Mrs. George Gideon. The funeral services were held on Tuesday at 10 o'clock.

Luther McMinn served as a Private in the Civil War from 1861 to 1864 in Captain William Macintosh's Company I, 63rd Regiment of Volunteers Pennsylvania Infantry. He enrolled on August 19th, 1861 for a service time of 3 years. He was discharged on September 8th, 1864. His name is listed on the Memorial Plaque at Gettysburg. He received an 'additional land bounty' on November 21, 1867.
