Laymon "Ray" Blake, 79, of Beloit, WI, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in his home.

He was born February 27, 1932 in Roanoke, WV, the son of Audrey Stokes and Lottie Mae (Riffel) Blake. Laymon was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He married Shirley Brady on December 24, 1954 in Weston, WV and from that union they had five children. He was a 1958 graduate of Allied Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL.

Laymon was employed with the Beloit Corporation as an engineer/project manager which allowed him to travel throughout the world. He was a member of Second Congregational Church where he served as an usher and head of the stewardship committee. He was an avid golfer and a huge sports fan. Laymon enjoyed bowling, watching all of the football games, square and round dancing, and western shows but most of all he was a family man, a caring and dedicated father and grandfather.

Survivors include his four children, Cheryl Blake of Beloit, WI, Mark (Robyn) Blake of Prattville, AL, Paula (Jimmy Simmons) Blake of Fort Smith, AR, and Carla (Paul) Link of Beloit, WI; six grandchildren, Steve (Bobbie) Blake, Alex (Selena) Link, Eric Link, Nathan, Michele, and Jennifer Pachmayr; five great grandchildren, Ehren and Stephanie Blake, Riley and Jena Stoutland, and Braxton Pachmayr; two sisters, Mary Jane Blake and Betty Mae Blake.

He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Debra Sue Blake; great grandson, Taylor Ray Blake; brothers, Dana Stanton, Eli James, and Charles Eugene.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in the Second Congregational Church, 657 Bluff Street, Beloit, WI with Reverend Douglas Gray officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI.

A memorial will be established in his name at a later date.
