Billy Joe Adams, 79, of Flora, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, IL after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Millie and Hazel Hicks Adams and was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee but had lived in Illinois for the past 20 years. He loved the outdoors and was a handyman who was always willing to help others. Mr. Adams was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a retired truck driver and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 25 years, Tammie Lee Adams, of the home; two daughters, Kimberlee Adams of Flora, IL and Denise Nelson and husband, Ron of Indianapolis, IN; one son, William Adams of Ft. Myers, FL; one step-son, Rev. Mark Parsons and wife, Linda of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Carole and husband, Dr. Don Tarr of Mountain City, and Pansy Lowe of Hampton; one brother, Tom Adams of Laurel Bloomery; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Adams will be conducted on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Mark Parsons officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon – 2:00 PM on Friday prior to the service.

The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service at Butler Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post No. 49.
