JOHN GORDON PASSES AT 57
ACTIVE GRANGER HAD LIVED IN SAME ADAMS HOME ALL HIS LIFE

Adams, May 17, 1943 -- John H. Gordon, 57, active in the local grange and chaplain at the time of his death, passed away this morning at the Community Healt Center in Hillsdale, where he had been a patient since May 10. Death resulted from heart trouble.

Born in Adams township January 26, 1886, to George H. and Francis Adelain (Seymour) Gordon, the deceased had always lived in the present farm home.

September 29, 1900 he was united in marriage to Mae Sophia Sabin. To this union were born two sons and one daughter, Harold and Mrs. Barbara Crall, living near the parental home and Harry of North Adams.

He leaves besides his widow, Mae, and children, six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Turner of Wauseon, Ohio, Mrs. Mary Mulligan of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Arthur of Bronson, Michigan, and Earl of Walla Walla, Washington, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He had been a farmer all his life, and also retailed milk in North Adams for ten years.

He belonged to the Methodist church in North Adams, had filled the office of moderator for the past nine years, his time expiring in July this year.

He was very active in grange work, was chaplain of Adams Grange No. 286, member of Pomona and State Grange.

The Michigan State Chaplain Mrs. Bernice Murry Curtiss of Charlotte, Michigan, came for the funeral and assisted in the services.

His funeral was held at the Miner Funeral Home in Hillsdale, May 20, 1943 with Rev. E.L. Suteliffe officiating. Burial was in the North Adams cemetery.

The bearers, who were neighbors and friends were John Quarton, George Ambler, Joe Tolan, Carl Shull, Lawrence Chase and Westley Calbetzer.
