"The body of Mitchell Pool of Wagener was found dead in the swamps of North Edisto river on Saturday last, with a bullet hole through his neck"

Emanuel Williams was arrested and went to trial. He was found "not guilty".

Both Mitchell and Emanuel had been a Town Marshall in the past. Mitchell for Wagener and Emanuel for Springfield. Emanuel is buried at John Gunter Mill Cemetery. They were distant cousins.
