BETHEL MAN FOUND DEAD NEAR HOME
Bethel, Mo., May 13—Charles Reed, 85, a farmer living alone five miles northeast of here, was found dead near his home Friday afternoon. He was apparently stricken with heart disease Wednesday morning.
According to a neighbor, who found the body, Reed had been seen by him Wednesday morning crossing the field near where the body was found. The man had been cutting down some brush near a creek and sat down upon a log to rest. The body was found lying across the log in a badly decomposed condition.
Reed was well known in this section, having lived here since he was 13 years old. For several years he had been living by himself, his wife having died about thirty years ago. Surviving is a son, Harvey of north of here, one brother and several sisters and half-sisters.
Burial was in the Newark cemetery late Friday evening, following an inquest by E. P Thompson, coroner. Short services were held at the grave.
