Mrs. Emma McGee

Dies in Oregon



Mrs. Emma McGee, widow of the late C. C. McGee, died Saturday, August 4, 1951, in Grants Pass, Ore. Mrs. McGee would have been 90 years old August 15, and had been an invalid for three years.

The family at one time lived in the Pitts Chapel neighborhood northeast of Harrisonville, and it was there that the husband and father died. Several years ago Mrs. McGee went to California and lived at Pamona. She had been living at Grants Pass for some time.

Surviving are three sons, Charles H. McGee and C. L. McGee of Belton and W. F. McGee of Harrisonville, and three daughters, Mrs. Ivy L. Nelson of Grants Pass, Mrs. Cora Hicks of Corona, Calif., and Mrs. Sam Teeter of Emmett, Ida. There are also 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The body arrived in Kansas City Wednesday, accompanied by Mrs. Nelson. The funeral is being conducted this (Thursday) morning in the Runnenburger Funeral Home by the Rev. J. R. Scott of Adrian. Burial will be in the Pitts Chapel cemetery.

1861-1951



Emma Etta Adams, daughter of Charles and Malinda [sic] Adams, was born August 15, 1861, at Panora, Ia. She died at Grants Pass, Ore., August 4, 1951, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 20 days.

In 1882 Miss Adams was united in marriage with Christopher C. McGee, a native of North Carolina, who was living in Iowa at the time. To this union were born six sons and three daughters. The three eldest sons, Lewis Albert, Wilbur Harley and Ira Beedley, preceded their mother in death. Surviving are Mrs. Ivy M. Nelson of Grants Pass, Ore., Mrs. Martha Teeter of Emmett, Ida., Charles H. McGee and C. Leroy McGee of Belton and William Robert McGee of Harrisonville. There are also 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. McGee spent their married life on farms. They moved to Missouri in 1902 and located on a farm in the Pitts Chapel community northeast of Harrisonville. It was there the husband and father died September 7, 1914. Mrs. McGee continued o live alone on the farm for several years and then moved to Harrisonville. In 1925 she went to Lavern, Calif., and made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Hicks. The last three years of her life, during which time she was an invalid, she lived at Grants Pass, Ore., with Mrs. Nelson,

At an early age she gave her heart to the Lord and down through the years He was her source of strength and comfort. She was a member of the Methodist church, to which she was faithful in attendance as long as she was physically able. During recent years Mrs. McGee spent much time in the study of God's word, and this proved a great blessing to her in her days of affliction. She was a kind and loving mother and her friends were many.

The funeral was Thursday morning, August 9, in the Runnenburger Funeral Home, Harrisonville. The service was conducted by a former pastor, the Rev. J. R. Scott, of Adrian. Miss Nancy Lu Smith of Harrisonville sang "Rock of Ages" and "The Peace That Jesus Gives." Casketbearers were Dess Ferguson, Joseph W. Kelley, Austin Woolard, Ralph Yoder, Fred Dunkin and Everett Keller. Burial was in the Pitts Chapel Cemetery, northeast of Harrisonville.
