Clippings..........May 17, 1943....Picture of the couple. Before her marriage May 8, Mrs. Fink was Miss Geraldine Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hill, formerly of Gorham, but now of Hays. Sgt. Fink will return to Ft. Knox, KY this week after 3 weeks furlough at home, his first since he was inductged into the Army more than two years ago and more than a year of which time he served in Panama.

Marvin Ebel Fink, 90 of Russell died Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 2008 at Russell Regional Hospital. Marvin was born Dec. 24, 1917 on the family farm near Russell, the son of Floyd J. and Amelia (Ebel) Fink. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1935.

Marvin served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He served in the 87th Field Artillery in the European Theater. After the war he returned to the Russell area. Marvin was united in marriage to Phyllis Hill on May 8, 1943 in Russell, Kansas. Marvin worked for KAW Pipeline for over 30 years before retiring as the warehouse manager. Marvin was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, the Russell Masonic Lodge where he received his 60 year pin, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Russell Elks. He enjoyed playing golf and snooker.

Surviving family include his wife of 65 years, Phyllis "Gerry" of the home; daughters, Ann Ostmeyer and husband Todd of Russell and Patricia Krotz and husband Tom of Newton; brother, Dale Fink of Russell; five grandchildren, Wendy, Keegan, Brian, Amber and April; 6 great granddaughters and nephew Ed Heffel of Hays. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Terry and Dennis; and sister, Esther Heffel.

Celebration of Marvin's life will be held at 10 AM Friday, December 26, 2008 at Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell with Rev. Terry McGuire officiating. Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 will be conducting the flag presentation. A private family committal will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 5 PM Wednesday, December 24 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 3 to 4 PM. Memorials have been established with the Russell Senior Center or Trinity United Methodist Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
