James William Newton, 42, of Odessa, died from an accidental gunshot wound while on a hunting trip in Kimble County, Texas on November 20, 1960. He was born on May 25, 1918, in Stephenville, Texas, the son of James David Newton and Mathilda Jane Schuch. James and Anna Lou Hobbs were married on December 10, 1943, in Odessa, Ector County, Texas. He attended Polytechnic High School, in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1935 and graduated from Highland Park High School, in Dallas, Texas, in 1939. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, enlisting on November 8, 1939, and served until his discharge on March 25, 1942. He was employed as a Vehicle Clerk with the Odessa Post Office. He was preceded in death by his father, James David Newton, in 1942. He is survived by his mother, Mathilda Jane Newton, of Coleman, and his wife, Anna Lou Newton, of Odessa, Texas. He is buried on November 20, 1960, in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Odessa, Texas. Hubbard Funeral Home in Odessa was in charge of arrangements.
