Thomas "Tom" Dixon was the son of Susan Copple and James Bowman Dixon who moved their family from Missouri to Sunshine Valley, northeast of Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon, in 1852. There were 13 children born into this family.

Tom was killed by Indians while herding cattle in the Steens Mountain area in southeastern Oregon. He had been a popular young man in Douglas County and fine cattleman.

Vainly look we for another, In they place to stand; left side: Away from his home, And the friends of his youth, He fell like a soldier, He died at his post; Killed by the Indians at Stein's Mountain, Grant Co, Ogn.

Gravesite Details

Odalesque is about 6 feet tall and is in closed iron fence with another tall odalesque (James & Susan Dixon) and small headstone for J.D. Dixon
