Charles was the son of Timothy & Millicent "Millie" (Dodson) Stamps. His siblings were: Diadima Sarah, Nanthaniel "Nathan," Lucinda "Lucy," Joshua Washington, William W., Elijah Dodson, & James Stamps.

Charles married Hannah Belcher in Morgan Co, GA on Dec. 24, 1816. Their children were: James Wesley, Fletcher M., Richard, Timothy, William, John R. Margaret, Elizabeth, & Davenport Harrison.

Their last child, Davenport, was born on Christmas day in 1831. Hannah died in Allen Co, KY on Nov. 10, 1848.

Charles second marriage was to Margaret M. Wygalin Allen Co, Ky on May 30, 1849 (by William B. Frost). Their only child, P.F., was born on Jan. 12, 1850.

Charles served as a private in Captain Thomas Griffin's Company of Kentucky Militia. He enlisted in August 1812 in Captain William Berryman's Co., 3rd Regiment of Cavalry of KY and saw service at the Battle of New Orleans. He was discharged December 25, 1812 at Fort Knox, IN.

In 1828 he inherited the sough half of the quarter section of land in Madison Co., AL from his deceased brother, William W. Stamps. Following is the portion of William's will that pertains to Charles: "I will to Brother Charles Stamps the following property viz the south half of the quarter section of land that James Fitzhugh now lives on, this property do I will to brother Charles . . . "

Charles had 12 children; all but one by his first wife. He died on July 12, 1860. He was buried in the family burial ground at Buck Creek Church in Allen Co, KY.

In 1882 his second wife, Margaret, was living in Simpson Co, KY, and her grandson said she lived "ten miles east of Franklin on the Gallatin and Bowling Green Road."
