Obituary from the Wayne County Press, Nov. 26, 1896:

Johnsonville. Nov. 24 Mrs. Curtis Leathers, living west of town died last Friday morning and was buried in the Hale cemetery the same day. Leaves a husband and five children.

Notes:

This memorial has fascinated me for a long time. I finally put together a timeline and came up with this.

Diantha Emma "Dica" (Burgess) was the daughter of William Thornton Burgess and Mary Jane Bowers. She was married four times:
1st to William Barnard 1/11/1880 in Wayne County - he died in 1881, they had one child, William
2nd to James J. Scott in April 1884, they had one child, James
3rd to G.J. Mifflin [son of R.M. & Mary (Esters) Mifflin], 10/8/1890 in Wayne County, he was born in Jefferson County abt 1868 and probably died in 1891
4th to Curtis Leathers, 2/11/1892 in Wayne County, they had one child, Myrtle

The spelling of her name varies in records from Dica to Dicey or Dicy, Dyanthia.

Note that her obit indicates she had five children. It is possible that she and husband James Scott were responsible for two of his brother Stephen's daughters, Beulah and Jessie, after the death of Stephen's wife in 1895. So far I can find no record of children from her marriages other than the ones listed above.

Please let me know if you can confirm any additional information.
