CARTER, Basil Trueman - 78, East Leicester, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 9, 2006, with his family by his side. Born in Mansfield, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Walter T. and Ivy A. (Stewart) Carter. He was an adherent of the Church of the Nazarene, Oxford. He was self-employed as a farmer and lumberman for a number of years. He also drove a school bus for a number of years. Following this he was employed with Enamel and Heating Ltd. in Amherst as a bender operator. Prior to his retirement he was employed with the Department of Transportation as a summer crewman and winter dispatcher. He was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. Surviving are daughters, sons, grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Thompson, in 2004; half-brother, Stewart Carter. Visitation will be held this afternoon and this evening with the funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 12, both in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, with Pastor Bob Barnes officiating. Interment will take place in Mansfield Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Cumberland Regional Health Care - Palliative Care, Mansfield Cemetery Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
